Vivian Cheung (aka Tigerspell) is a British-Chinese composer and artist based in London. Her practice fuses acoustic and electronic instruments, weaving oral histories, and pushing the boundaries between recorded and live performance. Her work aims to elevate the underrepresented voices of multicultural and queer identities, and the wonders of nature. She has shared her work in events such as Swansea Sonic Arts Forum, MUSICA, MANTIS, and Manchester Art Gallery.
Alongside her experimental work, Vivian is a pianist, harpist, and game developer. She was a composer for the 2021 Sound and Music Summer School and Trinity Laban’s Composer’s Ensemble, and has written for performers such as Sarah Dacey and Laura Bowler. In London, she has performed with CoMA in the Royal Festival Hall, Rubyrae Thrower in the Royal Albert Hall and on the King’s Cross Floating Garden. She has performed her piano and clarinet duet ‘whalesong!’ in Lynne Plowman’s Manchester concert, presented her work CantoNeon in the Swansea Sonic Arts Forum, and received the 2024 Hargreaves Prize. Vivian graduated from the University of Manchester in 2022, with a MusB Music degree.
To this day, she continues to collaborate, learn and explore the limits of musical composition.
